Taken ownership of encrypted folder/files, but now can't un-encrypt. (WINXP)

Hey all,

My previous installation of windows XP was corrupted. I re-installed
onto a NEW hard drive and have full access to the files on the
original. I had one encrypted folder and files on the original and
have taken ownership of them. I can access them now, but am unable to
move them to the new hard drive. When I go into properties (for folder
or files) the ecryption check box is checked but grayed out. I've set
permissions to full, but to no avail. Am I missing something? Thanks,

If you did not backup and restore your encryption certificates, kiss your files goodbye.

Even though I have access and can view those files? It just won't let

You will not be allowed access unless you previously backed up your EFS
private key or keys to password protected .pfx file and then imported that
into the new operating system for your user profile. If you did not do that
you hopefully still can recover your EFS private key from the old operating
system by buying the EFS recovery program from Elcomsoft for $100 if there
is no way to get your old operating system functional. The free version will
verify that it can find your EFS private keys and will decrypt a small part
of the file if you enter the correct password for the user. --- Steve

Have you tried 'save as...' ?

Even though I have access and can view those files? It just won't let
me move them.
