Tables and figures in Word 2007

I am putting together a fairly long document, made up of several separate
shorter ones. I need to copy tables and charts from the various doucments
into the new one, and wish to give them a heading OR caption indicating table
or figure number eg. Figure 1, Table 1.
My problem is that I may have to change the order of the tables and figures
and wonder if thare is a way of doing this so that the headings would change
automatically (like an index entry would change a page number if moved).
Any help would be very much appreciated.

So long as you use properly inserted "captions" for your items, they
will update themselves when you reorganize them. Reference tab >
Insert Caption.
