Table width

Pay attention to the cell contents when you do this however. If you have an
character in there you won't make it.

Tom ... that doesn't seem to work for me - no amount of changing that value
makes it smaller.

Perhaps, as suggested by Murray ... I'll look for and delete (if there) the
as mentioned by Murray. Maybe that's the trick.

As a related question ... how can I determine the width of a table cell,
when I go into the properties and there is not value assigned. When I want
to create an image for a cell, I need to know the width and height. Thanks
if you know.

Thanks to you both for your responses to my query.

Just replace it with a transparent GIF image that has the dimensions you are
trying to achieve.

You don't do it this way. You analyze the rest of the content in your table
and figure out how wide that cell NEEDS to be to preserve its structure. Or
you create the image based on your layout plans and force the table to
properly adapt to the graphic design.

To figure out how wide a image needs to be for a table cell, I just insert any image currently in
the site, the resize it to fit, then I got to my image application and resize the actual image to
the requirement, then I save and then import into the current open FP web / site.

Sheesh. Get a screen ruler. 8)

Curious method, that. I have to say, I have never done it that way.

It avoids the problem of trial and error, and doesn't require installing another application, etc.

Sorry to have made this complicated.
I was creating a graphic with a gradient fill to blend colours from one cell
to another and wanted to know what size to work with.

To ask a stupid question ... what's a transparent gif? I use graphic
software to create some of what I use for the web, but this has me a little
miffed. Sorry to be so dense!

By the way Murray, removing the nbsp; did the trick for downsizing the cells
that I needed. I still had to play a lot with it. (For some reason, the
design screen the preview screen were dramatically different (I expect
differences, but the extreme difference meant I had to do a lot of
experimenting ... trial and error)).

However, thanks ever so much though for that tip ... really!!! It allowed
me to achieve the look I was after.

Send me an email, I will send you a transparent GIF image. It is a image with no color in GIF
format.

I think you can create a transparent gif in any Image Editor by opening a
blank page and then saving it.

Am I correct, Thomas

Hmmm
... the software I'm using (CorelDraw 12), doesn't provide for that action.
I can export an image to just about any format, size and resolution but,as
far as doing a save as, with no image ... gif is not a choice (although
other destination formats are listed). With nothing to select (or nothing
on the page), the export function is greyed out.
Thanks for trying Trevor. Any other suggestions?
Diana

Thomas and Diana,

I have no intention of joining a fight. I am just curious.

I opened a blank file in PictureIt! and saved it in gif format. Would this
be a transparent gif? It shows as completely blank

Diana,
I'll leave to Thomas to send you one

Trevor,

I have PictureIt! 2.0 and I can not save a blank file.
