Help! How do you generate a TOC that is NOT a
hyperlink? I don't want the hyperlink. When you click
on "Edit Hyperlink" the "remove" option is not there. I
am working on a Ph.D thesis and need help right away.

Many thanks,
michele

Hi Michele in NYC

Remove the "\h" switch from the TOC field. The select the entire TOC and press
F9. Then selected "Update entire table".

This worked! And now I ask the question...why? Why does
MSWord make the TOC function so difficult when it used to
be so simple??? THis has been such the MAJOR PAIN.

MANY thanks,
michele

In Word 2002 and above, you can opt out in the TOC dialog (clear the check
box for "Use hyperlinks instead of page numbers" under the Web Preview). The
UI doesn't offer this option in Word 2000, unfortunately, but removing the
\h switch works in all versions. The page numbers will still be hyperlinked
as they were in previous versions.
