How do I create a table of contents that will not change the text and page
numbers of the info already there? I am highlighting the text I need and then
inserting a TOC; when it formats, the headings and page numbers are changed...
 
I use Heading Styles to generate the TOC. When you generate the TOC it then
converts the heading styles to TOC styles. It's never changed the font style
or size, but I have modified the TOC styles to show different indentations
and, of course, have th dot ledder tab .....

Also, when generating the TOC it's best to have your show/hide button turned
off. Especially if you have any markings of citations in your document.

I really don't know if any of this was helpful, but maybe....
