Table of Contents Page Numbering Issue

I have marked the headings in the document that I want to produce a Table of
Contents. The page numbers are formatted as "- 1 -, - 2 -, etc., but in the
Table of Contents I want them to be formatted only as 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Can
anybody help?
 
If you're actually getting "- 1 -" in the TOC, then probably you added
numbers using the Insert | Page Numbers command and selected that number
format. Delete the framed number added that way (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UnaccountablyIndented.htm for tips) and
use the Insert Page Number button on the Header and Footer toolbar to insert
just the page number; then add the hyphens (or en dashes) yourself as plain
text.
