Page numbering in Table of contents

Table of Contents is numbered in the format "i, ii, iii"
The actualy document starts on Page 3, but I have formatted the page
numbering so it begins with the number 1. The problem is that in the Table
of Contents, the first page of the document is listed as beginning on page 3
when I want it to show page 1. How can I get the table of contents to show
it as Page 1?

I must have been doing something incorrectly.....I removed all the page
numbering, saved the document, put the page numbering back in and updated the
entire table and it worked this time.
