Table of Contents Errors

I created a table of contents with no problems, but when I attach it to an
email, the page numbers all change to page 3. How can I resolve this problem?

Try zipping (WinZip) the file before you attach it - that helps keep the
mail servers & security police from hacking the attachment to bits.

My employer does not have 'Win Zip'. Do you have any other suggestions?

Most likely does - it comes standard with just about any Windows PC.
Right+click a document file icon & you'll probably see it listed in the
contextual menu. Choose "Zip and email [filename].zip" If not, it's
avavailable as a free download here:

Your recipient is opening the document directly from the email in Reading
Layout view. You have several choices:

1. Explain to your recipient how to disable Reading Layout view (Tools |
Options | General). He/she may thank you for it.

2. Suggest that the recipient save the document to the hard drive before
opening it (Reading Layout view affects only documents opened directly from
attachments).

3. Inform the recipient that updating the TOC (with F9) after switching to a
different view will correct the page numbers.

Suzanne,
This is a really helpful suggestion, thank you! However, I had the same
problem with a document, and neither I, nor the recipients have Reading
Layout view turned on.
Turning off Reading Layout has not solved the problem for me. Once it's
passed through email, the TOC numbers are all 3, even if re-saved on a
hard-drive.
Is this some kind of email error? If so, I will try the other suggestion of
zipping the file and see if that works.
Thanks for your help!

If you update the TOC, do the page numbers sort themselves out?
