Table of Contents, controlling page break

Is there a way to control where the page throw comes in a TOC so that all
items relating to a section ie main heading and all heading 2, 3 etc - are on
the same page. I don't want each section on a new page, just to ensure that
sections are not split between 2 pages on the automatic page throw. Thanks
for any help

The various TOC levels are controlled by styles: TOC1, TOC2, etc.

You can set the "Keep with next" paragraph attribute for each level you use.

But then you'd need one additional level, applied to (for example) the last (and
empty) paragraph before the next section starts. This level would NOT have "Same
as Previous" activated, and thus allow the page break between sections.

You'd probably also want to activate "Keep lines together" if your TOC entries
might break to additional lines.

If you don't know how to access the style definitions, you need to tell us which
version of Word you're using.

Thanks Cindy, I'd been playing around with the TOC styles but never thought
of putting in a 'dummy' one, clever!!
