Table Fields

I am trying to save a table in design view but get the
message "too many fields defined" if I try and close the
table down.

This is then followed by the message "Errors were
encountered during the save operation. Data types were not
changed.Properties were not updated."

Is there a limit to the number of fields allowed?

255 is the limit but if you have added and deleted fields, you will need to
compact the database.

More than about 25 fields generally too many for a properly normalized
database.
