Table conversion from Excel>Word>HTML>FrontPage

I'm experiencing a column-width problem when taking tables originally created
in Excel and transplanting them to Word and then saving them as HTML and
modifying with FrontPage. The columns are literally six inches wide on the
HTML page though they do not appear that way when saved in Word. Trying to
modify the column width in FrontPage is ineffective and even modifying the
HTML doesn't help. Does anyone know how to manipulate column size or have any
idea what's happening? Thanx!

Why not save directly from Excel as HTML or copy and pasted into FP?

Don't do that.

No MS Office application has _EVER_ output good data that way. Probably
won't in the future either. Microsoft just can't resist putting extra
extranious crap that screws it all up by trying to make it so you can go
back and forth between applications. HTML is NOT a data handling language,
it is a markup language (thus the ML) and does not support that stuff.

There used to be a feature of FrontPage that allowed converting plain text
into a table and back. Try making a CSV file from Excel and pasting the
data in and then converting. (Does not appear that is present in the most
recent version. It's worth a look.)

There are a few tools on the table toolbar that can help strip off extra
stuff, but they do tend to mis the "MSO" tags which can cause headaches
digging around in the code to get rid of it.

Also, with older versions it used to be that you could select a table in
Excel and copy and paste from file to file for decent results. That might
be your best option.

Otherwise, you may be best off re-creating the table and pasting the data
in.
