tab functions for bullets

The tab key no longer changes the hierarchy of bullets. When in bulleted
format the tab will tab text, but not bullet hierarchy.

Are you certain that:

A- You have a multi-level bullet style applied,
B- That the insertion point is at the *beginning* of the line to be demoted,
and
C- That you aren't trying to demote the *first* item in the list?

Word 97 or 2000: Tools | Options | Edit: "Tabs and backspace set left
indent."

Word 2002 or 2003: Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type:
"Set first- and left-indent with tabs and backspaces."
