SystemSuite 5 ?

S

Sylvia M.

I've been using Norton Antivirus on my 98 PC, but without
firewall protection, (been lucky so far)...

I took a 'friend's ' advice and purchased VCOM SystemSuite 5.
It claims an 'Advanced personal firewall' and several other
'bells and whistles'

When I e-mailed them, they agreed that I should first uninstall
Norton.

A few questions:

1. When uninstalling Norton, is it necessary to do more than go
to add/remove programs? Are there some 'hidden' pieces of the
Norton/Symantec program hiding somewhere?

2. Comments re System Suite 5???

3. Are there parts of the program better not installed?

TIA

Sylvia..I have tried Vcom System Suite myself and it's really a pretty
decent program..The virus scan with it is Trend Micro,I believe the
Firewall is sygate but don't quote me on that..It's been a while since ive
had it on.It has a registry cleaner,web cleaner,defrag ect..not bad.but i
prefer stand alone products.Suites seem to hog resources, especially
norton, whew, and f-secure is also a bad one for hogging resources..Norton
had to be hogging your windows 98 alot. How much did you pay for it
btw?.RH710

About $50 at Office Depot.

Well, by deleting Norton, I'll free up room for SystemSuite, if I
decide to try it...depending on posts...

You'll do much better with a quality suite.

Dave, are you saying that e-Trust is a more quality suite?

Some details of why, please.

Yes. Three products from 3 vendors bundled.
CAI eTrust (anti virus), Pest Patrol (anti spyware) and ZoneAlarm (FireWall).

Anti virus and FireWall are known industry standards and ICSA Labs qualified.

Sylvia, do yourself a favor and save your money. The comment made
earlier about stand-alone products is very spot-on. SystemSuite is
mediocre, at best. If you wish part with $ 50, please consider a worthy
charity instead.

Look for best-in-class solutions. While my recommendations are all my
personal opinion, they are based on my experience with these products
and others, including SystemSuite:

Anti-virus utility: NOD32 or Bitdefender
Firewall: If you absolutely must have one, Outpost or
BlackIce
Defragmentation: PerfectDisk
Registry tools: jv16 Power Tools 2005
Security Utility: WinPatrol Plus
Anti-Spyware: U pick 'em
