Systems Administrator

I have tried to download certain patches, etc., but it
always says that I must be a Systems Administrator to
download/employ the patch. How do I become a Systems
Administrator? It is my personal laptop--my wife and I
are the only users--I have tried logging onto the
computer under both names--each time is says that I must
be a Systems Administrator. Thanks.
