I have a partition titled SYSTEM_SAV on my Compaq and I am running XP Pro on
the C Drive. Can I delete the SYSTEM_SAV partition safely. I no longer have
the OS that was running on the computer. Please advise, I need the space...
Thanks in advance...

Sounds like that was a restore partition from the other operating
system? I would think you could but you might want to contact Compaq
tech support to be sure.

Sounds more like the hidden partition on the HP systems, which is there in lieu of a
Windows XP CD, for repairing and installing. If one opts to save old operating system
files during a Windows XP upgrade install, a hidden partition is NOT created. If it is a
hidden partition with your Windows XP repair and install files, and you don't have a
Windows XP CD, then I definitely would NOT delete anything from that partition. Compaq
and HP have merged. So, I would assume that it's the same hidden partition with Windows
XP repair and install files that HP systems have. If your system came without a Windows
XP CD, that would be your MAJOR clue.

HP?

Hi JCW,
The SYSTEM_SAV partition stores the Factory Image and also the Compaq's proprietory feature "User Backup" files. (extension *.PQI - PowerQuest Image). If you delete the data in the System_Sav partition, reinstallation of Compaq stuff (easy access keyboard s/w, and other preinstalled applications, drivers) is not possible. You can delete the data in tthis partition ONLY if you have a 'Quick Restore CD' in place (not a Recovery CD), again there may be differences between each model of Compaq. Best advisable to contact Compaq Support.

Thanks as always Kelly,
I did away with everything related to the Compaq and installed a new OS on a
new Hard Drive etc.. So I assume it's safe to delete the SYSTEM_SAV
partition.

Thanks JCW
