Using XP Home o/s. When I log on, screen says "Cannot find
file C:\Windows\System32\Bridge.dll"

Could I have inadvertently removed this file when I
cleared hundreds of pests using Pest Patrol? How do I get
it back? Thank you.

It is likely you have some spyware that should be removed.

There are registry entries that still need to be deleted. Go to
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.winfavorites.html
for the proper way to delete these keys.
