System won't start

When I turn on my system it asks if i wan't to start in safe mode, regular
etc. I can't make it start in safe mode regular or restore to a prior
configuration. It brings up the windows splash and then stops right there. If
I leave the machine on long enough it eventually tries to re start itself and
then it hangs up again. It will not start off of the win 2k disk either. Any
help or suggestions would be great. -- Jeff

What do you mean "it will not start off of the win 2k disk (sic)
either"? I'm not sure why you'd want to do this anyway if you are
running XP. In the meantime, here are some things you can check and
other questions to answer:

1. What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
2. Can you get into Last Known Good Config (I'm guessing "no" but your
post isn't clear)?
3. Are all your drives seen correctly in the BIOS?
4. Give us some details about the computer itself - is it old?
homebuilt? OEM?
5. Was your computer virus-free? If you think so, what did you do to
determine this?

Right now, based on the information you provided, there isn't any way of
determining whether your problems were caused by hardware or software.
We need to try and narrow things down for more effective
troubleshooting.
