"System Volume Information" directory inaccesible...

I identified out what was locking it the other day, and have now forgotten !
....I had Spybot Search & Destroy "in" a few days ago, currently it's
uninstalled,...has that left something busted in registry ?

....to save me wading through it all again, and pointlessly uninstalling and
reinstalling security software, anyone know off-hand if
ZA free firewall, AVG Anti-Spyware, AVG a/v, or Windows defender is
preventing access to my
XP's "System Volume Information" directory ?

No. Windows itself is preventing access to that folder. Spybot S & D is
detecting the existence of the malware in one of your Restore Points.

Thanks Frank, I'm pretty sure, (as much as one can be nowadays - even with a
battery of anti-everything+inherent normal use complications ...installed +
always practicing safe-hex:), that this, (my main), PC is not compromised.

A couple of weeks ago I lost ability to simply view the contents of System
Volume information directory, I thought it was after installing Spybot S&D,
....and then I uninstalled it, and could then view aforementioned directory,
mind you, could've been something else! (I only wanted a quick peek to see
the size of a restore point !)

A few minutes ago booted into Safe Mode and ran AVG anti-spyware on
boot-drive C:\, then ran AVG on drive C:\ ...results negative,
....could've run multi-av|Sophos|Trend|Mcafee|Kaspersky CLS's but, I don't
think I'm going to live that long !
....noticed that AVG a/v sweep, "Could not scan bootsector of disk - reading
error," ...I wonder if that's an inadequacy in AVG re: SATA HD {with mobo
support} ...only XP support / no 3rd party driver and not using RAID, ...or
yet again, security software prevent AVG av from getting at it ?!

Noticed that whilst in Safe Mode, using Windows Explorer, I could see the
contents of the folder "System Volume Information,"
....it contains one restore point, and two other files,
"MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase" and "tracking.log" !!!
....just been Googling on "MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase" ...lots of
speculation as to what it might be ! ...the mysteries of MS !!

....anyhoo, am now running in Windows XP Home ed. / Normal Mode and using
Windows Explorer I can now see into "System Volume Information," ...and I
didn't do anything ! ...must have refreshed soemthing somewhere ? !

To rule out malware infection, read this Announcement and follow it's
instructions.

....for mentioning that the current version of HJT produced 3 CLS positives
at VirusTotal, and mentioning that I'd downloaded it from aumha.org -
simply for background information sake, and also mentioning that an older
version of of HJT from my archieves produced 1 CLS positive, ...one was
subjected to torrent of vitriol from a MVPS, who chose to misinterpret,
distort, alter and/or ignore relevant facts in my two or three posts there.
He was either having a bad day, or is simply a fundamentally very rude and
ignorant person - something one very rarely comes across in these MS MG's.
Quite how he got a MS accredition with an attitude like that, indicates to
me that the MS accreditation system doesn't exlude lunatics.
....that is my final comment on the subject.
