system unstable after adding memory

I have a PC with Asus P4P800 Deluxe board. It runs fine for 1 year. I
added two 512MB memory (Kingmax SuperRAM Series Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin
1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200, Model MPXD42D-2) last night. Initially, the
system would reboot itself after reaching Windows 2000. I increased the
voltage for both CPU and DDR and it ran fine. Things got strange this
morning. With the same setting, it would always reboot without reaching
Windows. I disabled my overclock setting to default and increased the
voltage and it booted to Windows. It would not run anything. Opening a
folder, launch a program would make the PC reboot itself.
Taking the memory out, everything goes to normal. It obviously is the
problem of the memory. I have 2.8 Pentium 4 processor overclocked to 3.3
and now I can't even run with 2.8gb. What is wrong with the memory? Could
it be a faulty one? How well is KingMax? Does it run well with oveclocked
system?
Also I wonder if there is website about the optimal settings for Asus
P4P800 Deluxe that I can use for reference?

You should download and run Memtest86 from a boot floppy.
Try different RAM combinations to narrow it down to a bad
RAM module, etc.

Though ASUS make very good boards you should stick to the approved memory, I
have had issues with Geil and ASUS boards.

I have both of the items you describe (Asus board, Kingmax ram) but they are
in different systems. The Asus is running Kingston value ram and o/c's
fair - 2.8 @ 3.25 with not a bit of change in the cpu temp. The other
machine is a MSI board with the Kingmax - 1 gig pc3200 ram with a Celeron
2.4D o/c'd to 3.0 without any issues. Maybe I am just lucky, but it runs
fine without any errors. I would suspect that one of the Kingmax rams is
bad. Do the memtest that was suggested and you will know right away if one
or both are bad.

I just had that exact same problem with a board (p4c800) and new
memory. The thing would (seemingly) randomly reboot after installing
new (ddr 400) memory
Running memtest would reboot it after just a few minutes.
I tried the old ram I was replacing and no problems. It appeared that
one/both of the new ram was the problem but the new memory worked fine
in another board I had.
I exchanged the motherboard, kept the new ram and all is well again.
Something about that board couldn't support the memory.
It's not unheard of, I've seen it happen a few times.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I took the old RAM (one 512MB DDR) out
and put the new pair to its location and ran fine for 2 days. I then added
the old RAM to other slot and it runs fine too for the last 2 days. So
maybe the new RAM does not like the other slots (the one at the right side
of the board).

I've not tried overclocking yet. I will wait for a few weeks at default
speed before trying.

I have an asus A7N8X-E deluxe mboard with amd3200 and 3x512 pc3200
ddr400 crucial ram.
Any of the dimms work in any slot okay on their own, and memTest says
they're all fine, but if I put any combo of two or three in any slot
configuration, the system becomes unstable, and memTest reports
errors straight away. I have had the blu screen of death about 3
times so far since installing this ram, something I had NEVER seen in
the year I've had the pc.

I know it seems weird, but my mboard does seem to allow the ram to
work in dual channel mode with 3 dimms in it, and the manual says its
okay.

The problem seems to occur only when the ram is in dual channel mode,
and is intermittant and random, I cannot cause the pc to crash by
running several apps and large files.

At the moment its running with all 3 dimms in, but its a lot slower
running the startup apps

Do I need to to increase voltage or something in the bios?
