System Tray icons not loading at startup

Hi

I don't know whether this is an error or just an incorrect setting, but my
system tray icons (most of) don't load at startup. Most of the times, only
the LAN connection indicator and the Security Centre icons load. Sometimes,
though, my Nvidia application and sound control unit also launches.

Don't know whether this will be of any significance, but I use:

Win Xp Home Edition with SP2
Spybot S&D V1.4 (which has a registry monitor and restrictor)

Please help...

Thanks

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

Load Services.
Scroll down and look for the following:
Plug and Play - Make sure it is set to Manual.
SSDP Discovery Service - Make sure it is set to Manual.
Universal Plug and Play Device Host - Make sure it is set to Automatic.

With any changes made click Apply then OK. Reboot and try it out and
report back.

Hi

Thanks. That did the trick. I still get an error at login, though. It's
titled "RUNDLL", and the message says:

"Error loading cmicnfg.cpl.
The specified module could not be found."

I suspect it has something to do with my unistallation of the "C-Media"-app
today. It was an update I got from MS update a few days ago. I saw it added a
Control Panel module, but when I tried to open it, it just gave me the
"loading" cursor, without actually loading any configuration window.

I suspect the "RUNDLL" has something to do with the startup process. Am I on
the right trail?

Thanks for all your help so far.

Hi.

May I just add, it only worked for one restart. After that, I still only get
the LAN icon...

Hi Johannes,

http://www.tune-up.com/ TuneUp Utilities 2006

Download a Trial version of this program. It is fully functional for 30
days. Use its Windows Registry Cleaner to clean out the Windows Registry. It
will fix your problem.

Now as far as C-Media goes. After the Windows Registry is cleaned out,
reboot.

Uninstall all C-Media programs listed in Add or Remove Programs. Reboot.

Use the TuneUp Registry Cleaner again, until zero errors. Reboot.

Now install the Sound Drivers which came with the computer. Reboot.

Now allow Windows Update to install the new Sound Drivers and reboot.

Then go to C-Media and download and install the latest Sound Drivers for
your C-Media Chip. Install them. Do not uninstall the previous versions
installed. Reboot.

You should be fine now.

Thank you very much! that solved the problem. I don't get the cmi error
message at startup any more. I have not tried out FS yet, but hopefully that
will work too...

Thanks

Johannes
