Hi.

I am having a weird problem with Windows XP Professional SP1 (all
updates) on my Athlon XP 2200+ system (see here for details of my gaming
box: http://alpha.zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/computers.txt ). After I
reboot or power on my computer, I am taken to my XP's account screen.
I select my account and type in my password right away. I noticed system
tray has missing icons, but the program processes are in memory. I can
get my icons back if 1) kill process and relaunch them or 2) logoff my
account session and relogin. OR instead of logging in right away, I just
wait over 30 seconds and then log in. Then, all icons show up.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Thanks Ramesh. The only ones that might fix my problem are:

Right click My Computer/Manage. Expand Services and Applications then
Click on Services. A list of services appears in the right column.
Scroll down to the SSDP and uPnP Service. Right click each, choose
properties. Change the text next to "Startup type:" to Disabled. Or if
you are running XP SP1 uninstall UPnP from Add/Remove Windows
Components.

I guess I will try disabling UPNP since I don't know if anything uses
that in my system.

OK, this appears to be working. What are the side effects of disabling
SSDP and uPnP services? I hope I didn't break anything on my XP machine.
