System Tray Icon Missing

Donald Jacobs

I downloaded the program and installed it. I did not
change any options, let the program use the standards. At
the conclusion of the install an icon appeared in the
system tray. When I did a scan the program updated. Icon
still there and the scan completed with 2 hits which I q'd.
Then I rebooted. System Tray Icon MISSING. Can anyone
tell me why and what I should do to get it back.

I have been using MSAS for several weeks, now and have experienced nothing
but good results - - except for the annoyance that you report, the
disappearance of the icon from the tray, and the apparent shutdown of the
"agents". Based on an earlier post, I have turned off the "automatic scan
option, preferring to perform manual scans. As best as I can determine,
MSAS removes itself from the system tray following such scans.

I do hope that MS is arddressing this issue!

I do as well. I removed Zerospyware for the same reason.
However, in that case their help was little if any help.
Their answer was they would elevate the problem to the
engineers and it would be corrected in the next release.
Tha release was yesterday and NO FIX. When I discussed
this with them their answer was "We'll elevate it to the
engineers" which sounded familiar SO I removed it.

Hi All,
I'm just a novice, so this may not be your answer! If I
open MSAS (desktop icon or start menu) then on the menu
bar click Options - Settings - General, I can then
uncheck "Hide the MSAS icon on the system tray". After
re-boot the icon appears and remains there until I remove
it via the same method. Good Luck!!

Have already run that trap. The box is - - and always has been - -
unchecked on my 'puter.

You may well be running into a bug. However, as with antivirus
applications, there are viruses which disable Microsoft Antispyware. Please
be sure that your antivirus definitions are current, and run a full scan of
your machine.

The other "trick" I think of is perhaps checking that box, restarting
Microsoft Antispyware, then unchecking it, and restarting again, in case
that kicks something.

This area of the product definitely contains some bugs. If you have that
box checked, the icon appears after a scheduled scan has run.

I decided to leave it as is and when I reboot, click on the
short cut icon and then close the window. The icon then
appears. A little bothersome but it works.

Thanks - I think you are seeing a bug. I have it set to not show on most
corporate systems, but have it showing on my personal systems, and it has
always shown, so I haven't had a chance to experiment with whether there's
an easy fix.
