system tray clock shows wrong date and time

I am using windows 2000 professional OS. my system shows wrong date(2002) and
wrong time. even after I adjust it the next day it reverts back to its old
date and time.
will wny one suggest any reason for rectifying it?

If you are turning the machine off overnight, the lithium battery
on the motherboard needs to be replaced.
