System .tmp files

Hello
After defragging my WinXP Pro C drive, the defrag report indicated
about 800MB of files that could not be defragged. These files are in
Documents and Settings/My Account/Local Settings/Temp/TempSBE
(TempSBE can only be viewed with the Windows Explorer 'Hide
protected system files' switched off) They are all .tmp files ,
eg SBE5.tmp, etc last accessed a year ago. Since they eat up about
800MB, is it safe to remove these 'protected system files'?

The .tmp files aren't 'protected system files' the folder
Documents and Settings/My Account/Local Settings/Temp is.

It's safe to delete the .tmp files. If any are in use XP won't let you
delete them.

Common advice is to reboot and then delete the .tmp files.

All seems OK, even though after unchecking the folder readonly
WinXP issued dire warnings when I deleted the files.

It seems clear enough that these are .tmp files and can be
removed...I don't know why they were left there for over
a year. In my case, 800MB is a significant percentage
of my OS disk space.

Glad you got them cleaned out. The folder doesn't empty itself.
