System State (ASR) backup

Bert Smith

Hi all

My boot/system drive is C:\. When I use ntbackup.exe to backup the system
state does it backup ALL files on the C:\ drive or just the specific
Microsoft operating system files? Hope that this is not a silly question!
My program files are in D:\, but some programs installed in D:\ need to have
some files in C:\ as well. There are no data files in C:\ or D:\ Please
address any replies to the news group. My email address is false. Bert

If you use the ASR backup wizard it creates a backup of the entire system drive (usually C). When you boot and run the ASR wizard it formats the drive, reinstalls XP and then puts everything back on the drive that was there when the .bkf file was created.

You're welcome Bert. Hope it works for you, it always did for me.

I now use an imaging program, TrueImage from www.acronis.com it is easy to use and XP is already (still) activated when I restore an image.
