System Service takes 30-60% CPU time

Therefore the server is very slow.

Setup
One w2k SP4 DC Server: AD, DNS, Print Spooler, WINS, WSUS, RAS, Shared
Files, AntiVirus Policy Manager, one NIC and +30 w2k/XP clients. 1 GB RAM is
not fully used. WinUpdated almost fully.

Any hints how to isolate the problem? Reboot didn't help.

It is conceivable that with a lot of active clients that 30% is normal but
60% does sound high for this few clients.

Have you used Performance Monitor at all? Have you checked the
System Log for errors (especially things like Interupt errors)?

TaskManager is a good first step -- sort by CPU usage and see if
anything jumps to the top and points the finger at itself.

If that isn't informative then you can monitor each application or service
under the "Application" object.

You can Google for this at Microsoft to get a LOT of articles about
troubleshooint high cpu:

[ high cpu "%" | percentage | usage ~diagnose | ~troubleshoot kb |
"resource kit" | guide site:microsoft.com ]

Hi

Problem solved?

It seems that problem was related to servers AntiVirus SW. Disabling and
enabling it CPU usage came back to normal. Stucked in scanning a file? There
is a update for AV SW.

Thanks,

Juha
