If I implement a System Restore to an initial point when I had reformatted
and setup my pc..software...drivers... Will this be just as good as a new
reformat? Does it clean out the registry, back to a clean state or will all
the garbage that has accumulated in the past months still be present?

Basically, after 1-2yrs of use, the pc has slowed down significantly (I use
it for testing and development). Will a Restore do or is a format better?

Thank you for enlightening me on the subject.

I had already been there. Sadly the page says very little in fact. It
restores files and settings???! Which ones??? Does this include the
registry (my original question)??? None of this is actually
elaborated/explained...

Thank you for trying to help though.

Does this give you a better idea? :-

System restore will not keep restore points for the 1-2 years that you
mention. As the system creates new ones the old ones are deleted to
make room. My system does not show any that are more than a month old.

You might be better off using a Hard Drive Imaging program. Some free
ones are listed here:-

You wouldn't have a system restore point that goes back that far 1-2 years.
I would not recommend relying upon a system restore unless it was created in
the last couple of weeks.

If you want to go back to your original point of setting up your PC, then
you have to reformat and start over. That's the best option. Then image your
drive with a reliable package like Paragon etc and then you can go back to
your initial settings with ease in case of problems in the future.
