I recently purchased Partition Magic version 8 for Win
XP, etc. I've used this several times in the past few
years without problems.
I have a Dell, 8100 P4 with 384 MB RAM which has been
running clean and no problems. Maybe minor but nothing.
The HD is 20GB and has to 10GB partitions in FAT32.
I wanted to increase the size of my C: which had 1.49
unused and the D: had 6.75 unused.
So I used the wizard to do this, normally I always did in
manually. Well the wizard didn't work and I received and
Error 626 which states "Operation to be performed on HD
not visible from boot mode press any key to continue"
CONTACT POWERQUEST, which is now Symantec. That was a
disaster and they blamed everything anywhere they could.
Now to the point, I did a system restore so I could get
back to a point before I installed Partition Magic. When
I did this the following message came up: "changes made
to drive D:\ after this point cannot be reversed because
drive was either excluded from system restore monitoring
or turned off or removed."
How can this be if the restoration point was made before
the PM was installed? I could not get back to where I was
in the program.
I probably lost the MFT, index on my D: drive because
even though it is there I cannot get to it.
I just thought it should be reported to MS as to why this
happened?
Thanks

I believe you have hosed your HD (boot sector?? others will know)
with the use of PM, somehow? Changes were made that even Restore can't
fix. Messing with Partitions is tricky business and is usually at a
level WAY below Windows...Restore is good for things not involving
base level...like partitions and such. It will NOT recover from
changes made to these areas. Wait for more comments but I would bet a
clean Format and install of XP is coming your way.
