Steve

Having restored my pc back to 2 earlier dates, Restore
fails to bring back the contents of the `My Documents'
directory.

What's wrong? What can I do?

Thanks,

Restore will not replace your documents, only the file
structure.
Unless you believe this.

System Restore :: In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"without losing personal data files". What does SR have
to do with personal data files ??

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

Try logging in as Administrator (instead of what ever name
you are logging in with that has administrator privileges). Look in the
administrators My Documents folder. You can then copy paste it to the
folder you want.

You need to start up in the safe mode to log in as administrator
1.. You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not
be available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
2.. Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click
Shut down.
3.. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
4.. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start,
press F8.
5.. Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and
then press ENTER.
