System Restore

I'm running SP2... my HP laptop Pavilion zd8000 has been my primary
production system for well over a year. As I do lots of software testing,
I'm a frequent user of the System Restore feature.

About a month ago I noticed that my attempts to restore started to be
unsuccessful.... I've tried exercising the feature by taking it off,
rebooting a bit without it, and then reapplying it. No luck.

I've tried various things, including the creation of a restore point in
addition to the automatic ones.... no luck.

It seems to be acting normally. The restore points are note on the calander,
and it goes thru all the motions, but it's always unsuccessful.

After much thought,PapaJohn came up with this jewel:

You really should look into using drive imaging software.

Thanks Max,

Maybe so, but for now I'm looking for info about why the System Restore
feature broke, and how to get it back to a functioning mode.

Using something else won't do it.

Thanks Curt..

interesting but no clues in it about how to get it working again.... I'm
thinking of cashing in a support call to Microsoft, as a learning experience
and to get the feature functioning again.

Curt,

You have a very good System Restore web. It appears to have just about
everything needed except .......

Do you know what could be limiting my System Restore to one actual month? It
starts over again in a new month. If it was disk space I would see a moving
start date, not this starting from scratch each month. I couldn't find this
problem in your web. This problem started in the last few months and
previously it kept the normal 90 days.

I have XP Home with all current updates.
