Hello,
one of the problems I have with my Windows XP set up, is
that I have lost the facility to operate System Restore.
The programme runs, but ends up saying unable to restore.
I have tried all the dates available but to no avail. Can
anybody help please?

Restore is not reliable. It's a marketing gimmick for MS.
You can turn it off from Control Panel > System > and then
re-boot and it will purge it's file. Then re-boot, turn it
back on.

You still have to deal the problem, it's a crap program,
that half works, half the time. It's like a parachute,
will it open if you need it ?? Maybe !!! It is not
isolated from any viruses and must be purged to keep from
a re-infection. If you use it, fine, Have I, yes !!! But I
learned the hard way about it's reliability, it can't be
trusted !!I It's too easy to use NTBack-up to back up your
system state, but not to a cd, cause that's another issue.
Save it to a folder then burn it. Oh, I forgot you may
have to install NTBackup since MS decided you did not need
it in XP Home, that 75% of users have. Oh, you have a OEM
and you don't have NTBackup Get it here :

Do a real backup and get Erunt for your registry. It puts
a folder on your root dir with a installer.

If you're a true MS believer, Keep drinking the purple
Kool-ade, the Halle-Bop Comet is returning, they have room
for you !!

System Restore :: In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

I always like it when people actually admit these added features microsoft
puts into their OS is really crap. :)

You really are a tit aren't you? If you haven't got anything sensible to post - DON'T.

BTW - SR is not an 'added feature'.

Hi Gerry

It seems as though System Restore may have some corrupted files.

Try this - although you you will lose all existing SR Points;

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab. Uncheck 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' - reboot. Then re-enable SR and reboot. Does this help?

I like lot's of things in XP, It's the best so far, but
when there is something wrong ppl ought to admit it and
fix it or remove it or at least not use it as a selling
point that makes the casual user believe their system is
safe, if they have a problem. System Restore Is one of
them.

Hey Will.....Stuff this.......lol

Hee Hee.....Put on your purple cape, keep moving to the
front, Drink the Koolade, Your transportation will be here
soon, if you feel sleepy just lay down, they won't leave
you behind when the rest of the true MS believers depart.

Of course, it has saved me too. However, that doesn't prevent someone from
condemning it out of hand. I guess it's easier than figuring out what went
wrong.

Thanks for all that. I followed the instuctions and have
now got system restore back. Gerry
