There is no "dos" mode in xp.You may use command prompt instead.And can
use the system restore from command prompt.
1. Start your computer in Safe Mode(F8) with Command Prompt
2. At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe,
and press ENTER
3. Follow instructions to restore to a previous, functional state
