system restore

I can't get System Restore to restore to any restore point
at all. I even tried the System Check Point and the Point
I set myself, both dated yesterday. I checked for viruses
using Norton Anti Virus with up to date virus definitions.
I checked for ad-ware using AdAware that's been kept up to
date. But System Restore still won't restore! I closed all
running programs that I know of including virus protection
screen saver, and power saving features (monito, disk,
system shutdown/standby/hibernate. Still NO RESTORE! What
am I missing? Is there something running in the background
peventing the Restore?
When I try to restore it goes through the motions (saves
system settings, displays the Restoring Settings window
which appears to work, then restarts the computer and the
System Restore window opens back up and says the system
can't be restored to that point. I tried a bunch of points
with the same result. Any suggestions?

You may need to do a "Repair Installation", requiring to reload all Windows Updates you have downloaded, including SP1(a) (unless that is already part of your installation disk). If the repair doesn't work, you will have to reinstall XP fresh.

Note:

Don't listen to the gormless ****wit "Willit", as he is attempting to recover from being a linux user, but once he ventured down that road, he became forever stuck in the shallow end of the gene pool of PC users, IOWs, he's classified a "linuxfuck"!

your're right Ken it won't fix it , cause it's

System Restore In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

No matter how many times you repeat this, it's still nonsense.
System Restore is certainly not a substitute for a backup, nor
does it solve all problems. But it is far more than "just a
marketing Gimmick for MS." It is a very useful feature, one that
has gotten me and many others out of trouble many times.

I have no way of knowing Microsoft's true intentions behind system
restore. But I do know that system restore is not reliable. Yes, it does
work some times. But it fails far to often to be considered reliable.
