System Restore

I am unable to use System Restore to take my computer back to a previous
point. No matter what date I use it tells me that a system Restore was not
done and to select a different date. Any ideas? Thanks.

Likely, the whole chain of Restore Points are unusable. When this
happens you should probably turn of SR, reboot and then re-enable
it. System Restore is basically a short-term "Roll Back" feature. You
should probably lower it's reservation quota of 12% to something a
little more reasonable and also turn it off on any non-XP partitions.
I believe it's maximum back dating is 90-days, but I wouldn't want
to use it beyond maybe a week or two at most. You'd be better
served using an Imaging program, such as True Image or Ghost.

It doesn't happen often, but every now and then, System Restore gets
corrupted, and all you can do to fix it is turn it off, then turn it back on
again. That causes the loss of all restore points, but they were no good
anyway. At least it will make future restore points good.

See MVP Bert Kinney's System Restore pages:

You probably need to turn off System Restore, reboot the computer, and
turn it back on again. That will wipe out all of the existing System
Restore points but the new ones should work properly from now on.

Good luck
