Can someone tell me the following

When you set a Restore point where is it kept on the HD.In other words where does the info on this set point put on the system .

Secondly. Let us say that someone has set a Restore point on a Win XP Pro SP1. He decides to install SP2 but turns off the System Restore. When the SP2 install is finished with the System Restore off is there a new restore point set or if he decides to remove the SP2 when the SP2 was installed without the System restore does the old set point is still available.

If its off its off and its not making restore points I dont believe. Not
exactly sure where they're stored other than where you can view them from the
GUI of system restore within system tools...

First thanks for the answer Kelly.. Second I am not using XP and never had . I am just trying to find out how it works in XP.

What I am most curious about is what I posted not counting where it is stored. You did answer me on that (where stored)Kelly. I just want to know if SP2 is removed what restore point is there for someone activate. My query is that if System restore is turned off and SP 2 is installed and then removed before the System Restore is turned back on then when the person gets back to SP1 which restore point is there for that person. That last one he did with SP1 or which one. Does he have to set a new one or there is no restore point set at all

In this XP general I am basing my answers on NT,Win2000,Win2003. I believe that these systems that I know well are about the same as XP. Does that make sense <s>

Kelly who? Since you are posting using the same name as one of the very
well-known MVP's (Kelly Theriot, who has posted for many years as
"Kelly"), please identify yourself differently than just "Kelly". I
understand that it is your name, but posting as "KellyW" (or whatever
is correct) would be better. Then there would be no question as to 1)
that you are not Kelly Theriot, the MVP; 2) that you are not trying to
maliciously spoof being Kelly Theriot.

Where are the System Restore files located on the drive? Read the

Turning System Restore off purges all restore points, and you can not
get them back.
When the SP2 install is finished
with the System Restore off is there a new restore point set?

I do not know if installing SP2 reactivates System Restore. But when
System Restore is turned back on, it creates a new restore point.
or if he decides to remove the SP2 when the SP2 was
installed without the System restore does the old set
point is still available.

No, they were already purged when it was turned off.

If System Restore was not turned off and SP2 was installed, all
restore points are lost and on large one is created. To remove SP2 go
to add/remove programs in control panel and remove it from there.
