If your System Restore is not working properly then there is usually
no way to recover from this and preserve the old restore points.
The only thing you can do is to:
1. Shut off System Restore, at least for the affected drive.
2. Reboot the computer
3. Turn System Restore back on and create a new restore point.
All of the old restore data will be wiped out by doing this.
System Restore should be tested occasionally, and especially after
doing the above procedure.
To test that system restore is working properly do the following:
1. Create a new shortcut on the desktop (for anything).
2. Create a manual system restore point.
3. Delete the shortcut you created in step 1.
4. Reboot the computer.
5. Use system restore and choose the restore point you created in
step 2.
If this works then the shortcut will be back on the desktop.
