system restore

I have a glitch in my computer. Using Windows XP
professional. Thought I could solve my problem by setting
my computer to a previous date, but when I go to system
restore I get a blank page. Have no idea how to proceed.
 
I also get a blank page when I open up system restore. The reason I tried to do a system restore is because Explorer will no longer open to the home page of my choosing- although so far Explorer is otherwise OK. I am also not able to access the "help and support" page that a menu shortcut would ordinarily lead me to. Explorer seems to believe that ie-search.com is now my default home page. Perhaps that annoying as all get out website is responsible for the attack. I'm not the only one who uses my computer, so I don't really know what happened. Any suggestions?
