System restore wizard won't open

Hi

After downloading from the Sony website some driver
updates, and wishing to uninstall because they do not
seem to be properly installed, I attempted to open System
Restore through Help and Support. No luck. I then typed
System Restore Wizard in the search box, but the
hyperlink to the System Restore Wizard won't open that
way either. I presume some setting needs changing so that
I can open the Wizard and restore to yesterday. Can some
kind person please tell me how to do that?

Hi Tony,

You can try System Restore from a command prompt:

Starting System Restore Tool from Command Prompt
------------------------------------------------

1. Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt. NOTE: You must
log on as the administrator or a user that has administrator rights.

2. At the command prompt, type
"%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" (without the quotation
marks), and then press ENTER.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen to begin restoring your
computer to a previous, functional state.

I'm hoping that you didn't try to uninstall the drivers using System
Restore. Anyway, try booting into Safe Mode (press F8 key before the
Windows logo). Before the Safe Mode desktop loads you'll be given the
choice to go to the desktop, or directly to System Restore. Opt to go to
System Restore. Try restoring from a Restore Point a day or so prior to the
problem. After the Restore, and your system reboots into Normal Mode, see
if System Restore works OK from Normal Mode.

Thank you both for the two replies I have so far
received. Unfortunately, the loading process would not
let me punch F8 swiftly enough to obviate the Windows
start up. However, remarkably, after another unhappy
attempt to reboot, the machine decided, without me, to
remain in one piece (not being kicked! -- I promise you)
and to remain as a member of our family. In other words,
it corrected itself, God knows how or why.

I am nevertheless very grateful to receive so much
expertise so swiftly.
