Restore is not reliable. It's a marketing gimmick for MS.
You can turn it off from Control Panel > System > and then
re-boot and it will purge it's file. Then re-boot, turn it
back on.
You still have to deal the problem, it's a crap program,
that half works, half the time.

Do a real backup and get Erunt for your registry. It puts
a folder on your root dir with a installer.

System Restore In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

Willit, do you ever get sick of posting this???

Some people get sick of reading it.

Hi

Which files have you lost? If they are data files - System Restore doesn't monitor those. What error message - if any - are you getting when you try to use System restore?

Nope, I never asked you to read it, it was to the poster,
wasn't for you.

System Restore is not a cure for all problems, and is certainly
not a substitute for a backup. But it is far more than "a
marketing Gimmick for MS." It is a very useful feature, one that
has gotten me and many others out of trouble many times.

When you say you've lost "files," that makes it sound like
something System Restore won't help you with. System Restore
restores the system--for example the registry. It's not a
substitute for backup and won't help you with data files, if
that's what you lost.

In what way will it not work? If you go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore, and
take 'restore to earlier' does it show a calendar, with some days (back
to 9th) in bold and showing the identities of point made if you click
such a bold day? If not, what does happen?

If so, you have probably filled up the available space and older points
have been dropped off. This is a short term matter - not a long term
backup, and as others say is *not* for data files at all (so there is
no danger of you unwinding hard work on them if you use it). Read up
on what it does at
