System restore removed input drivers!

Why would returning to a restore point remove keyboard (and mouse)
drivers? How the heck can there be a restore point that has no input
device drivers? You can't even get into Safe Mode if you can't login and
you can't login without an input device. Last known good state is just
as useless as system restore. It's not a hardware failure as the keybd
works in CMOS screens.

It's absolutely rediculous that I have to do a complete re-install of
the OS on a two week old machine because of this. My opinion of XP just
dropped down several nothches and it was that high to begin with.

Why did you buy a machine with an OS you didn't think
very highly of?
 
I didn't. I have to use and support it at my place of employment.
