System Restore question.

System Restore has saved my life on several occasions, even
when installing new printers, so I want to keep a few points
on the system.

Can I store the extra restore points on a memory stick? Is
there a way to export them via software or should I just
copy over some files?

The C:\System Volume Information\*.* folder seems to hold
the restore info; is this enough to transfer over?

System Restore is not designed to work that way. By forcing it to do so,
you are inviting problems, and you will find SR will no longer be
effective.

If you are interested in disaster recovery (and it is good that you
are), you should instead make regular images of your *entire* hard drive
(or at the very least your C: partition that contains the OS and all the
programs, preferences, etc.). This way, if your life needs to be saved,
you will be in much better shape than relying on SR alone. Acronis True
Image is one of the better imaging progams. DriveImageXML works, too,
but you won't be able to make incremental images with it (but at least
it's freeware).

Don't get me wrong. SR can be a very useful tool, too. If you want to
keep "a few points on the system," that is a very good idea. Just know
that these will be the most recent points (which is as it should be). If
currently there is only one point, it is because one of two reasons:

1. There is a program installed on your PC causing this to happen.

2. You are low on free hard drive space.

To answer the second reason, how large is your hard drive and how much
free space is on there? If there are partitions, then answer for the
partition that contains XP. (Hopefully your programs are on that
partition, too!)

To learn more about the first reason, see this page (if you haven't done
so already):

Lastly, ERUNT may come in handy for you:

ERUNT is not essential (especially if you choose to regularly image your
drive/partition), but it would be one extra layer of something to fall
back on if need be.

Does she have inbred relatives?
I wonder if he is by any chance related to Sarah Palin?
(Only at least she's making some big bucks; so in that sense, and *only* in
that sense, she isn't).

Twayne cannot take any initiative is solving problems caused by registry
cleaners because
he doesn't even know what a registry is. If you do not believe that, just
ask him a technical
question about the registry.

Oh, come on now. The registry is a simple database, where you pick out
bridal gifts. Didn't he already cover that?

But he didn't say if it was at Sears or JCPenney.
