System Restore Question

I'm running XP Pro. Is there some way to determine approximately how
much disk space should be allocated for system restore ?? I have a
200gb drive with a 20g C: and the rest allocated between D:, E:, and F:.
When I visited the system restore setup, it had allocated 12% (max I
think) of EACH partition. Seems excessive to me. TIA

Too each his own. It depends on how often you perform an image backup of the
entire C: partition. If you do it Weekly then 8 or 9 days of restore points
should be enough, which on my drive is about 7% allocation.

If you don't do image backups then pick a value that your happy with. If you
still have a significant amount of free space on the C: partition then don't
change it, if you getting close to 20% or less free space then I'd reduce
the value to gain more free space.

It *is* excessive. Two ponts:

1. System restore can only restore the operating system and does nothing for
your data files, programs, etc. So using it on any partition other than the
one \windows is on (normally) C: is just a waste of disk space.

2.The default of 12% is almost always considerably too large. In practice
you can seldom go back more than a week or two, because any more than that
and your registry gets out of synch with everything else. So allocating
space for more than a dozen or so retsore points is a waste.

So I would have 1-2GB on C: and nothing anywhere else.
