System Restore Problem

My System Restore program no longer automatically creates
restore points. It also fails to restore to any restore
points, including those which I created even the previous
day, with the sole exception of a restore point I had
just made. I have already cleaned out most of my old
restore points.

I have Windows XP Home Edition. Should I re-install it?
Would I lose all Windows Updates? Could/should I first
save all Updates?

How did you "clean out most of [your] old restore points"? It's
possible to delete them all, or all but the most recent, but not
"most."

No, don't reinstall. Turn off System Restore, reboot, then turn
it back on. Chances are it will then work fine.
