System Restore PROBLEM

I'm using WinXP SP2. And I have just installed a new harddisk. Then I
discover a problem with System Restore function.

Previous I used an old 80GB harddisk with 3 partitions C, D, E.
I've just installed a new 160GB harddisk and transferred data between the
harddisks using harddisk manufacturer's utility "Maxtor Max Blast
(Windows)".

C: of old drive is transfered to be become C: on new drive;
D: and E: of old drive are transferred to be a single D: partition on new
drive.

So now the boot-up drive is the new C:
and the old partitions on old drive become I:, J:, K:

The problem is that the System Restore totally depends on I: (Preivous C:)
instead of the new C:.
I: is regarded as system disk and restore function cannot be turned off
without turning it off on all drives. And I am unable to turn off all
drives' restore too.
I am also unable to turn off any other drive of the system besides I: even
though a turn off checkbox is present.

If the old drive is disconneted from the system (so does I:), the whole
System Restore interface will hang up and I cannot config it.

Anyone got an idea / solution? Thank you!

Hi,

Installing a new hard drive can sometimes cause the drive letter
assignment not to be updated in the drivetable.txt file, used by System
Restore. MVP Ramesh Srinivasan has come up with two solutions which you
will find in the following article.

Drive letter missing in System Restore settings page?
