System Restore points

Can anyone tell me why I only ever see a single system restore point
listed? I've just installed a new driver via Windows Update and it
tells me that it has created a restore point. However when I look in
system restore it only shows me the automatic one from early this
morning? Isn't there a similar way to XP to see them all?

cheers,
Len

What you should be seeing when you open System Restore from the Start menu
are two selectable options, a Recommended Restore point and a radio button
to 'Choose a different restore point'. Selecting the latter and clicking
next takes you, or should, to a list of your existing restore points. Five
days worth of restore points is the default list length.

If you happen to dual boot Vista with XP the Vista restore points will be
erased every time you boot into XP unless the XP registry has been edited to
prevent it happening.

I didn't know that. Can you explain a bit further, or point me to a
document to read, please?

Thanks, Wolfgang.

How restore points and other recovery features in Windows Vista are affected when you dual-boot
with Windows XP

There is a "fix" or workaround which was just recently released.
I just saw it the other day and meant to make a post about it.
This was a huge deal for me back when I was beta testing Vista,
since I no longer dual-boot on any of my computers, I hadn't paid
attention to the outcome. We all had been told by Microsoft developers
this problem was not going to be fixed.
