System Restore Points

Hi. I've reinstalled my Windows XP hundrets of times with loss of all data.
Now i have a restore point, but it never works. What is the point in this
feuture if it doesn't work? In what the problem is?

If you have had to reinstall Windows hundreds of times the problem is
probably between the chair and the keyboard.
