hi, just bought a new machine, did the usual XP updates, before I did
created a system restore point, installed some more software, restarts in
between usual stuff, but when I checked the system restore point was missing
in the calendar. manually created some more, all ok restarted the machine
restore points gone.

Checked MS sites, brand new machine XP home SP2, 60GB free space, restore is
switched on, anyone similar experience, appreciate any ideas to fix?

Thanks in advance

Tony H.

Switch OFF System Restore, reboot and Switch Back ON... that should reset
it. It would be recommended that you scan your computer with antispyware
applications since they are a common cause for the system restore to loose
restore points. Download, update and scan with; Adaware SE Personal, Spybot
Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster and CWShredder. Reset your System Restore
after you have deleted possible spyware.

Hi Tony,

There are several reasons this may occur. Let's take a look at Event
Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently
that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title “Source” at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There’s no need to post duplicate Event ID’s.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?

See, System Restore fails to create an automatic restore point:
