System Restore option/icon/feature

I have an hp Pavilion-the System Restore icon, option, feature, tab (whatever
the correct term is) in System Tools has disappeared. I should say an icon
is still there, but it says System Information. When I click on it the page
that opens is hp's Help & Support. (The Microsoft Help and Support has also
disappeard - but one at a time). There is no install disc. Appreciate some
help is an understatement

You are probably seeing the effects of a failing hard drive. I would save
data as soon as possible, and test the drive with a hard drive diagnostic
utility. These are usually available from the drive maker's site.
An easy first try at fixing a drive is the "Error Checking" available from a
rightclick of the drive icon, Properties, Tools tab.

Mark:

That must be it. The first attempt showed a message the file could not be
opened. I shut it down, rebooted - 3 times more - the Check File program
didn't open at all. I think I will be backingup as you read this. Thank you
- greatly!

Mark, I forgot to to check the ratings "Yes" box when I submitted my reply.
Will it count checking it after the fact? If not, tell me how I can see you
get the credit - ban you tell I'm brand new at this?

The rating works anytime, thanks.
For that, I'll forgo the usual scolding about not backing up enough :)

The executable for System Restore is called rstrui.exe and is to be found in
Windows/System32/Restore. Try right clicking on it and creating a shortcut.
You can then place the shortcut into System Tools or your Desktop or any
place else you like and run System Restore from it.
