System Restore not working

Jack

I have Windows XP on my desktop but cannot get System
restore to work. When I select it in Help and Support, I
get the message:
"RSTUI.EXE Entry point not found"

"The procedure entry point
RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located
in the dynamic link library Winsta.dll"

I have reinstalled Windows XP--no luck
I have reinstalled Winsta.dll--no luck
When I go to system properties, there is no System Restore
tab so I can shut off System Restore, reboot, and turn
System Restore back on.

Can someone please let me know what is going on and how I
can fix the problem.

Sincerely,

Jack

Hi,

Start/run services.msc

See if SR is listed here. If so, you should be able to turn it back on
(start it, then set the startup type to automatic).

If not, reinstall just SR. Set folder options/view tab to see hidden and
system files. Locate the sr.inf file under C:\Windows\Inf, right-click it
and choose install.
