The Windows System restore facility on my PC does not work. It has been
working for over a year. Restore is enabled, but whenever I try to perform a
restore it keeps saying that it was unable to do it.

Is there a way to fix this without losing all the previous restore points
please

If system restore is complaining that it cannot restore the system - i
assume you have tried to do a system restore and the 'cannot restore'
appears after it had gone through the motions of restoring - it is possible
that the system restore files have become corrupt. If this is the case you
will not be able to restore the system, and the only alternative,
unfortunately, is to shut down system restore (via control panel>system
properties>system restore tab), close the system properties then open it
again and re-enable system restore. All restore points will be deleted and
system restore should start monitoring the drive(s) again.

Hi Russell,

The majority of the time this is caused by a corrupt restore point.
Turning System Restore off then on again will purges all existing
restore points, and creates one new one.

Try running System Restore from Safe Mode.
Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to
start your computer in Safe Mode.

Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account
that has administrator credentials.
In Safe Mode type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box
then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen. The
following pages have some troubleshooting steps to take.

What do you do if System Restore shows up completely blank inside the window
and the title is also blank, but it responds...?
